Press is regarded as the fourth pillar of a democracy. Therefore, those States who claim democracy have to enshrine the freedom of speech and expression in the Constitution. The democratic testimonials are judged by the freedom of press in their State. The sole motive of the press is to disseminate extensive and objective information regarding all social, political, cultural, political and economic aspects. Constitution of different States around the world promise separate levels of freedom of expression. Freedom of expression and speech lays the cornerstone of the freedom of press. Therefore, the objective of the paper is to study the freedom of press in India
