The human rights are most basic for a life worth living. It the state which ensures that human rights of each individual is protected though it’s us human who give these rights to each other. It’s a common understanding that there are certain duties that each is burdened with and they exist so that human rights of other individuals in society are not violated. It’s the stereotypical and orthodox beliefs that posses a huge challenge to the preservation of human rights. One of these ideas is racism or discrimination on the basis of difference in caste, language, region, colour of skin and culture. It is one of the most common violations of human rights that we see around us in day to day life. This paper tries to lay down the historical factors and event which lead to development of this menace of in India. It even explains the different types of racism and how they have prevailed for centuries in India. This paper aims to explain what racism is and its impacts over individual and community. The paper aims to explain how the personal, psychological, cultural and economic differences lead to racial discrimination. It tries to highlight the different beliefs which lead to racial discriminations like elitism, imperialism, reclusiveness, social practices and religious rituals. It tries to draw analysis of different phenomenon of racism and grounds of it like age, gender, colour complexion of skin, in capabilities and region of origin in India. It enunciates upon the need for bringing awareness about racism and its devastating effects over individual and society. It analysis the legislations formulated by legislature in India in last few decades in order to curb the practice of racism. The important role played by Non-government organizations and commissions have been mentioned. It limelight’s the loophole in the statutes and the lack of enforcement of laws which has caused trouble of millions in India. Ultimately, solutions to racial discrimination are elaborated and the amendment required within the society amongst the individuals who propagate racism.
