The practice of surrogacy has been a well-known phenomenon in India over the past few years. However, the same is faced with numerous challenges- exploitation of surrogate mothers, abandonment of children born out of such arrangements, socio-legal issues owing to differing ethical, moral and religious beliefs etc. Such challenges are largely because of lack of proper regulation of surrogacy in the country which is the rationale behind the new Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2020. The bill is an attempt to overcome the problems associated with surrogacy. This paper focuses on the changes that have been introduced through this bill and the potential legal and moral implications of the same.
